What's the fastet and best ship and fitting for high sec autopilot jumping?

Asked by [ Editor ]

Original question:

What's the fastest and best ship and fitting for high sec autopilot jumping?

Edit 2010-10-22

Since "best" is such a subjective word I will divide my question into numerous. Note that I haven't specified if it's AFK- or "somewhat aware of what's going on"- or "I'm playing and can activate an AB/MWD"-autopiloting. Provide different answers for each or state which of them your fit is for, if you feel that's important. I haven't specified races/faction. Provide different answers for each or use the fastest one.

Autopilot note

3 things affect speed of autopilot: warp-speed, max normal speed and agility. Agility=inertia modifier×final mass. Agility affects align time and acceleration.

The questions

  1. Absolute fastest autopilot ship and fitting no matter what the cost, skills or consequences that gets you from A to B without any demands on cargo-space.
  2. The most cost-effective fastest autopilot ship and fitting that gets you from A to B without any cargo-space demands but that takes into consideration the fact that you might be shot at.
  3. Question 1 but with approximate cargo-space of 4k-10k.
  4. Question 2 but with approximate cargo-space of 4k-10k.
  5. Bonus question. Any tips at all that are related. For example about autopiloting both AFK or sitting at the screen doing other things etc. Also feel free to extend to any categories that I missed.

Format of answers

Please provide concrete answers with specific ships and fittings. You don't have to answer all the questions. Please link ships and abbreviations to wiki-pages. If you like feel free to provide experimental data or calculated travel times and costs etc.

Fast, agile, and cheap is least likely to get you ganked. Shuttles are good.

Interceptors are certainly fast and agile, but not cheap. Make sure you go with an empty cargo hold. And check the route before you go AFK, as CCP recently broke (and later fixed) the autopilot during a recent patch, but it did send folks unwittingly to their low-sec doom.

Make sure to go for the “fleet” interceptor. The 13.5 AU/s warp speed can shorten journeys quite a bit.

Depends how much you want to spend.

Low Price: Purifier 11 AU and 500m/s for cheap.

  • Rig: 2x Hyper-spacial Velocity Optimizer
  • Rig: 1x Warp Core Optimizer
  • Low: Nano and Over Drive II's
  • Mid: AB + Cap Rechargers

High Price: Interceptor with the most lows u can fly

  • Rig: 1x Hyper-spacial Velocity Optimizer
  • Rig: 1x Warp Core Optimizer
  • Low: Nano and Over Drive II's
  • Mid: ab ro mwd + Cap Rechargers

You want to basically 1) Increase your Warp speed and reduce it's cap usage for big systems, and 2) Increase normal speed for when you land 15km from a gate like it's 2005 and autopilot brings you in.

Hope this helps.

I got me an Ares for the purpose of quick jumping. Didn’t think of velocity, just max warp speed… won’t even reach 19,5AU/s before it starts to slow down again. Haven’t tried larger systems, though, guess my cap is eaten there.

More or less every ship with an empty cargo are ok... but if you want a fast ship the shuttle is the best choice followed by noobships (ibis, impairor, velator, etc...) because at least you don't have to buy those but you get them for free just docking in a station with your pod.

...indeed the best rule is always "don't go autopilot if you've got something in your cargo"

for a cheap autopilot frig, grab the t1 version of an inty, put some cheap inertia or warp rigs (<200k) and a mwd. set destination, move the mwd button to the f1 location, set autopilot and put something heavy on the f1 key. oh and mute eve (if you did do that already). if you want to spend more isk, get an inty and do the same.

Shuttle, Interceptor, Covert Ops, or faction like dramiel. If your skills arent too good and isk is a problem, then just stick with the shuttle. If you have the extra cash I would at least recommend interceptor or covert ops. Put all nanofibers in the lows or a mix of overdrive injectors and inertia stabalizers and you should be set. Interceptor should be able to sublight it to the gate faster then a shuttle.

If you mean complete AFK, I-need-to-go-downstairs-for-another-beer autopilot, the shuttles are the best.

If you just use autopillot as a guide, frigates (my Rifter does 850 w AB) can fit AB's and make the sub-warp run to the gate much faster than a shuttle.

For that specific purpose, though, MWD's are a bit too much.

With high sec autopiloting there is a trade off(like everything else in eve!)

At best, you can have: 1. Speed/Agility 2. Cargo Capicity 3. Tank Pick any 2 for a high sec AFK ship. You will not find all 3!

I prefer Cargo Capacity & Tank with the tech 2 indy transposrts. The deep space transport has an awesome tank and the blockade runner has a nice cloaky option for the tank as such.

For high sec afk, I prefer using a freighter in high sec.....it has to be a coordinated effort to take you down in high sec.

The one with cloak is called Blocade Runner. The higher tank one is Deep Space Transport.

Ah thanks, I will edit my response to reflect that. :)

Covert Ops ships have the fastest warp speed so...

get a Covert Ops ship with a nanofiber module on it. The rest of the low slots, get overdrive modules and rigs so you can fly the 15-10km to the gate as fast as you can on autopilot.

I think the covert ops frigates are nice for something like this.

They're doing 13.5 AU/s while warping, and the sublightspeed can be increased using modules for lowslots.
