What skills have limited availability?

Based on NPC sell orders and/or drops are some skill books only available in certain places?

Fixed the question as it was not as broad as it needed to be. I did not know that some skillbooks only came from drops. I thought all were sold via NPC sell order somewhere.

Drug Manufacturing skill can be bought via npc sell order in null-sec only, from number of pirate corporations. Mining Director and Mining Foreman skills are being sold by Outer Ring Excavations in their stations.
Various weapon specialization skills(Amarr Drone Specialization, Cruise Missile Specialization, you name it) are being sold in the regoins that belongs to certain empires, say, missile skills are in Caldari regions, artillery/autocannon skills in Minmatar regions. Blaster spec being sold in Gallente space and railgun spec in caldari space. Drone spec are pretty straightforward, amarr spec skill in amarr regions, etc.

That is a good list of null sec, but even in high sec not all skills are universally sold by NPC….. For instance, Amarr Dreadnaught is not sold by any NPC in Sinq Laison. Amarr Carrier however, is sold in that region….

These can only be acquired via drops(mostly containers in radar sites):

  • Gas Cloud Harvesting
  • racial Encryption Methods skillbooks(Amarr Encryption Methods etc)
  • Nanite Control
  • Neurotoxin Recovery
  • these odd COSMOS skills that required for storyline items manufacturing - Sleeper Technology, Takmahl Technology, Talocan Technology, Yan Jung Technology.

I was under the impression that although Nanite Control is a definate drop item, Neurotoxin recovery is infact on the market. If you are sure I bow to your knowledge, but I would just check it.

I don’t see any npc sell orders on the market for Neurotoxin Recovery, however on player orders, it costs way less than Nanite control(almost five times less).

It looks like Neurotoxin recovery is a drop item, why else there would be “WTB Nanite Control and Neurotoxin Recovery‎” threads on the forum?

And by the way, this list was there before any other answer, it just didn’t answered the question in its initial state and I chose to delete it.

fair enough. Would just expect Neurotoxin Recovery to be much more expensive than 25M if it was drop only. +1 anyhow.

I note that, for some reason, the four racial Dreadnought skills are only for sale by npcs from their own regions. This isn't the case for Carrier or Titan skillbooks.

I also note that of the four skills Capital Energy Turret, Capital Hybrid Turret, Capital Projectile Turret and Citadel Cruise Missiles, only the Projectile and Missile skills are seeded on the market in Heimatar which is in Minmatar controlled space. Following on from that I guess you would only find the capital hybrid skillbook seeded in Gallente and Caldari space. I recall going to Gallente space to buy my copy which saved me quite a bit.

Nanite Control is certainly of limited availability, it is a drop from certain sites in nullsec (in one region only IIRC) and thus is pretty expensive - expect 230 million or so.

It is the rank 2 skill that reduces the severity of side effects when taking a combat booster, and is a pre-requisite for Neurotoxin Recovery, the rank 5 skill that reduces the probability of side effects.

True, but this isn’t controleld by NPC sell orders :–) Isn’t it a drop from exploration sites?

It is a drop from exploration sites, as he mentioned. And I don’t know how it is connected to a question about npc sell orders.

    all of those sills are also available from NPC sell orders on the market. So this is n ot at all what I was aiming for.

    I believe the Racial Encryption skills are only obtainable as drops from Hacking and Salvaging sites, and are not on the NPC market, this is only a theory as their prices seem to vary dramatically and I have them in drops fairly regularly.

    Would be nice if someone could indeed confirm my suspicion is indeed the case.

    NPC seeded orders on the market always start with 365 days duration. Players are not able to select this duration for orders so this is how you distinguish an npc order from a player order.

    Yes. The most obvious example of this is rigging skills. Most (if not all) of the armor rigging skills are found in Amarr space. Likewise Drone rigging appears to only be found in Gallante space.
