what skills (if any) do I need to train to scan for ships of other players?

Asked by [ Editor ]

1) I’m Wondering if I need to train any skills to be more effective at finding other players with the onboard scanner?

2) Does it make any sense to train skills to find other players with probes, or is that not really useful if your choice is to only fly small ships like interceptors and assault frigates?

CovOps are frigate hulls, and the kings of Probers.

if I wanted to fly a CovOps, I wouln’t have asked about skills for use in ceptors and af’s :( . my question is pretty specific, why does nobody read the question? . EDIT: nevermind, somebody read the question and answered it perfectly, I’m cool now…

1) The onboard scanner (the D-scanner) can only be improved with use. There are no skills to train in game, but a familiarity of use, local knowledge and an idea of what the d-scanner tells you are the ways to make it work for you. You can only find a ship with the d-scanner if it is at a celestial (planet, moon, belt, etc.), not if it is in a safe spot or in a mission.

2) Chances with combat probes are improved by the four Astrometrics skills in the science group. If you have all four trained up to lvl 4 then you have a good chance of finding most ships, but again it requires a lot of familiarity with the method and system. You can use a small ship to probe other ships out and then change into a much stronger ship to go and cause trouble, or you can work as a team with a fleet.

1) you cannot find people with onboard scanner. you can only see who is in space while using d-scan. but you can guess where he is by using this method

2) you need combat scanner probes and the skills to use probes to find players.

hope this answear everything.

You can find people with on board scanner alright, narrowing the angle and seeing if he’s in the direction of a belt or other object, for example.

As for the probes, I really wanted to know the skills and how high you really need to train the skills, not for exploration but just to scan down players.

like i wrote with d-scan you can guess where he is. and about the skills then ask in the question you need to know or i will not be able to answear it….

the skills is: astrometics – astrometic acquisition – astrometic pinpointing – astrometic rangefinding…..

the higher you have it the faster it goes with finding people.

thanks, Pyrelle… I did ask in the question though… my question at the top of this page is: “what skills (if any) do I need to train to scan for ships of other players?” Maybe its now displaying in different browsers… I’m using Firefox 7, it seems to render this page ok…
