What Skills Should I Have Before I Fly A Battleship?

What skills and fitting skills do you think a pilot should have before the fly a battleship either in PVP or missioning?

Fitting skills will be among the most important of the skills to have outside of the obvious ones of being able to put the large guns/missiles and repairs on.

Engineering will give you more grid and electronics will give you more cpu. Large weapons take a large amount to fit and lacking these skills will help. If more help is needed look at weapon upgrades and advanced weapon upgrades as being on the important list.

Whatever ship you are flying (unless you've got an uncommon passive shield tank fitting) you will be slurping cap. Make sure you can run reasonably for as long as you can. This means Energy Management and Energy Systems Operation as higher priority skills. If you are flying Amarr or Gallante (or a rail caldari battleship) you will also want Controlled Bursts at some reasonable level (not as critical for drone boats such as the Dominix that have drones as primary damage dealing).

As mentioned, drones are important for taking out smaller ships. Being able to send out 5 drones at once to make short work of a scrambler is important. If you are flying a Dominix, you will want your drone skills as high as possible, and the Gallante Battleship skill high too (stacking drone damage bonuses nicely).

You should also be able to run a T2 tank for PVE. T2 resists are very nice, but not on the critical part there (T2 gives 55% resists rather than 50% resists). However, there is a significant difference in Large Armor Repair II (800 hp/cycle) and the meta 4 version (720 hp/cycle). Similar advances are present in shields. Wherever you are (unless you are running with a logistics alt) you will enjoy having a better tank and many times it will mean the difference between a 'leisurely' pve fight and running away to repair structure at the station.

Any chance of getting a general check list?

I'd pick the recommended certificates for the ship (as listed on the show info for all T1 ships), and also the Core Competency - Elite certificate. Although, you can fly the BS successfully with just the core competency certificate at the elite level, having it means you have the extra edge over most other BS pilots and it won't be long before you can fly a marauder or command ship afterwards.

Core Competency – Elite is quite possibly the single most important cert in the game. Every skill in the whole train from basic to elite is vitally important to a combat pilot.

Core Competency – Elite is indeed an extremely valuable skill to have once you start maxing out your support skills to all 5, but is not needed in any way to run LVL4 missions in a battleship.

For PvP it really depends on what BS, for any turret based battleship you really should have T2 guns trained up for it before jumping into them, but say for the Dominix good drone skills with RR4 and Energy immision system 4 with gallente BS4 and a t2 tank will do. Just make sure you can fit ECCM (meta 4 is just as good as T2), Cap boosters, Good navigation skills, sensor booster etc.

Good Tank Skills (Train To LvL4 ?) Good Cap Skills (Train To LvL4 ?) Good Weapon of Choice Skills (Train To LvL4 ?) T2 Drones

That's all I can think off, also take a look at the recommended certificates.

Good answer, but not complete imo.

–> for PvE: know that NPC frigates can and will warp disrupt you in level 4 missions. You can easily lose your ship if you can’t kill those ships. Small drones are usually the weapon of choice, T2 and racial preferred but is not a must.

–> for PvP: prior experience in cheaper ships. You don’t need to be a pro interceptor pilot, but you definitely shouldn’t be on your first pvp experience. Full T2 fit is mostly expected for fleet fights but can be substituted with named modules and faction ammo.

Ye I gave a general direction, didn’t go into specifics, and might’ve left some stuff out. Thanks for the addition.
