What to do about POSes that are no longer maintained?

Asked by [ Moderator ]

I want to put a POS into a particular system, but every moon already has a POS around it. However, several of those POSes do not have shields and are just "anchored" (so, not actually useful for anything) and the corps that run them tend to be three years old with only one pilot in them (i.e. the CEO.) This suggests that the corp is no longer functional.

What is the best way to get one of these POSes removed? Destory it (after a wardec if in high sec), or should I persevere with diplomatic solutions first? If I should persevere with diplomatic solution, how long should I give it before I can be reasonably certain that the corp is no longer functional? (And then blow it up.)

Would you offer anything to incite the POS owner to unanchor the POS?

This really depends on what kind of player you are. Diplomacy is a lot of work. You would have to get the POS owner to unanchor and move the POS. Offering to help may help persuade them. Paying them off might work as well. If the corp is non-responsive your only option is to wardec the corp and blow the POS away. The time frame depends on how badly you want a POS in said system and how patient you are.

I would probably go directly for the wardec option myself.

Remember that if you kill the POS it might come back and hit you in the face at a later time. The other party may decide to wardec you as well or may hire mercs to harass your industrial pursuits. It's a risk you'll have to take into account.

An option is getting an alt corp or some mercs to wardec the corp and kill the POS. That way nothing will link you directly to any hostile action against the POS owners.

The corp ‘Concord Preservation and Recovery’ specialises in POS removal. This is especially handy if you need a layer of indirection between you and the owner of the POS you want removed.

I would ask the owner to remove it, then wardec his corp. Wait, about 24 hours.

Use armageddons w/ sentries, afk for a few hours to destroy it.

So, wardec him, and send the message at the same time. By the time the war goes live, he'll have had his 24 hours \o/

But is 24 hours really enough time for the pilot to read the email? How else could I find out if this pilot or his corporation are actually active?

If it’s gotten to the point that there’s only one dude in corp, the tower is out of fuel and there are no modules, it is highly unlikely that the dude cares.

I've also heard of partitions that have had CCP remove the tower in question. The circumstance was that the tower was owned by an individual player and was offline for something like 5months. Maybe shoot a partition first, you might get lucky, worst case is CCP says sorry we cant help!

After that blow it up! May take a while but builds character :P Good Luck

Honestly it’s probably quicker and less painful to wardec the corp and kill the POS. Also POSes can’t belong to a single player. They are a corp asset and so always belong to a corp. Now the corp can perfectly well have only one member…

I believe CCP will only remove POS from closed corps (since you can’t wardec that which does not exist).

Sweet, makes sense! So the trick might be to get those players to drop corp! I wonder if the player has been inactive for a long period of time if CCP will still remove the tower?

I doubt it. It’s your job to clear that mood for your POS, not CCPs. Imagine if you were AFG for 6 months and found that CCP removed your POS. Petitions are for bugs etc.

Don't spam the GMs with useless petitions.

Send a few mails, wait a week, then either wardec or hire someone else to do it for you.

Who said spam, make em work a little with a single petition! Never feel sorry for the GM’s :P

This is not the GMs job. Agree with Jez. No wonder the GMs struggle getting through petitions if this is what ppl use them for. Petitions are for bugs etc. not to resolve in game issues that players should solve themselves.

hold on a sec, I have never used a petition for this, so take it easy. And when have the GM responses been such a huge issue. It’s the lag kill petitions that waste their time, if any!
