What to do with a neutral character?

I joined a corp which needs my standings neutral for HS POS'.

Which "careers" can I do in EVE to remain neutral towards all NPCs?

Try rephrasing the title to more specifically reflect your actual question. (i.e. “Which Eve occupations are tenable without sacrificing character neutrality?” or etc.)

When you say NPC's.... Is this just for Hi-Sec anchoring of POS's? or is there some other reason.

Reason I ask, if you are just interested in Hi-Sec POS's don't worry about shooting Rats in belts! They are Pirate NPC's and as such because they do not hold hi-sec space you will never need high standings with them to anchor a POS.

Only make sure you don't kill faction NPC's ie Caldari, Gallente, Amarr & Minmatar.

You can infact slaughter, and I do mean slaughter (thousands of them) NPC rats in order to increase standings with the main factions.

You could also - trade (although good standings with the station owner = less transaction costs, but also bad standings with the station owner's competitors) - haul stuff for other people and get paid for it - be a bar tender in a station? <- only if and when ambulation erm incarna erm incursion ever comes out

Only faction standings matter when it comes to placing a high-sec POS. You will gain corporation standings while mission running, but only the storyline missions (and COSMOS missions) give you positive faction standings so you should not do those, and you just need to pick your normal missions carefully so as not to lose standings by fighting ships from NPC factions which will give you a faction standing loss.

If all HS POSes are already anchored, then tell your CEO/directors to go RTFM (read the manual) while you go run missions with whichever agent you like. You only need the standings to place the POS, and you can have your corporation's faction standings go negative (if you like) after that point.

Otherwise these careers are fine: trader, miner (no rat shooting), inventor, manufacturer, nullsec warrior (avoid all NPC targets!), wormhole denizen, salvager.

These are bad: Lowsec pirate, booster manufacturer, smuggler, ratter, thief.

Anything you want that doesn't involve shooting more than the very occasional npc rat.

Some examples:

  • Trading/financial investments
  • Scams/corp heists etc (might find you recycle your character regularly if you do this)
  • Mining (although as mentioned in other posts you may have to clear rats from belts)
  • Manufactoring/Invention
  • Hauling goods around for NPC orders or player courier contracts
  • As a point of contact for external services paid for with ingame isk (if you run killboards/design corp banners etc)
  • Train your character up as a specialist and then sell it on for isk.
  • Ninja Salvaging
  • pure pvper in 0.0/WH space
  • war dec pvp anywhere

Ofc many of these options are more appropriate for an alt character rather than a main and some may not be appropriate for you at all.

As Darina says once the POS is up the the corp standings are no longer a problem (unless they want to move the POS later of course).

Not sure if this question was perhaps posted to be "theoretical" or if it is actually a true issue for the poster - if it is the latter then I would suggest you ask what the rest of your corp do for a living. It is usually a good idea to join a corp that has similar interests/career intentions.

Mining ore without shooting can be a problem though...

You can do some station trading of course !

No, a sufficiently-tanked Hulk should be fine by itself anywhere in high-sec. Otherwise, have friends clear belts for you.
