What will be the role of the new capital ships introduced in the winter-patch ?

Background : in an interview CCP unveiled that the npcs will have "motherships" in the npc blobs that will invade eve. And also that thosw motherships will drop their respective blueprints.

So was the use of "mothership" word intentional or it was a mistake ? In any case there are new capital ships intorduced. Roles ? Stats ? Bonuses ? Skill requierments ?

I'm betting that it is a new class of ships. The reason moms got renamed to super carriers was so CCP could release a new type of ship somewhere down the line. Although most players still consider moms and SC's synonymous, the devs have been more careful to call them SC's.

It seems likely that if the sansha 'mothership' mentioned in the interview was, in fact, a SC, that someone would have corrected it in the press release and the incursion web page. Since they have been throwing the term mothership around a lot, it can be reasonably inferred that they mean mothership and not SC.

If you look into lore a bit, i believe there were jovian motherships that served a logistics purpose. Id put my money on the new mom being the logistics boat that the old SC's wanted to be. Something with the tank of a titan, and the repping power of a handful of carriers. And some fighters/bombers for offensive purposes, but not enough to make it offensively superior to a SC.

Released data on the new ship contradict your theory. See the other replies in this thread.

That’s an intresting theory , among the lines of what i was thinking. All i hope is that we dont ned up with a super-sized rorqual.

I don’t recall any logistics role at jovian motherships. But their motherships used “Death Rays” in amarr-jovian war, which known as titan doomsday weapons nowadays. Titans are things of yesterday now, so who knows, perhaps, one day we will see true motherships, perma-triaged carriers with these death rays, or maybe old-fashion Mother Of All Smartbombs on them.

as far as i know "mothership" is the old name for super carriers. not sure if they are talking a new kind of ship now.

Yes that was the question :) Since it was an interview and not official CCP statement atm i dont even know if it was a mistake by naming it like that or was intentional ( a diffrent from SuperCarriers ).

What if they are a new kind of sub capital in order for them to be able to enter high sec during these incursions?

What if this was speculation, better suited to adding as a comment to one of the above actual responses or the question itself, if at all.

I believe Mother Ship <--> Super Carrier are synonymous. Players and devs seem to still use the words interchangeably. HOWEVER if they made a big stink of changing the name, perhaps they are going to have a new ship class somewhere between BS and Carrier.

That’s an interesting theory – after all we already have the “sub-cap” Orca

No , since they have changed Motherships in Super-Carriers they havent used the word Motherships. It’s still in use by some players but never by the devs since the buff. It might be that the guys from that site used the old-term for what it actually will be a faction super-carrier or it might be a new ship. Anyone have information that will shed a light into this matter ?

Incorrect, if u look at the last few dev blogs they have used that word. Other posts GM’s made since the MS/SC name change as well. Either way i’m excited to see what happens. “flagship” skill is in the db still too. hehe. I guess we wait untill the next sisi patch.
