When is the best time to push learning skills to V and buy implants?

I've had my three chars for 1.5 yrs now, and they're working on things like t2 BS weapons, carrier skills and the such. I have +3's in all chars' slots. At what point should I look to move my t1 learning skills from 4 to 5, and my t2 from 3 to 4 to 5? And when should I move from +3 implants to +5? Do these two questions meld together? What's for dinner? These are the questions I need answered. =)

(Oh, and I’m not venturing into null in the near future, as I can’t do jumpclones and don’t want to lose the +3’s much less any +5’s.

It's definitely the slice of lemon that pushed that dinner over the edge into unhealthiness. Shocking, Melissa.

I'd agree with these guys, getting the rank 1 skills from IV to V is a matter of days, and repays itself within around 100 days of attribute use as primary (or 200 days as a secondary), give or take. Rank 3 can easily be brought up to level IV in days and you'll recoup the benefit within around two months of training with that skill as the primary attribute/four months as a secondary (or a combination of the two).

The cost of taking it that one last bit up to V is a matter for you to weigh up - as Ecaf calculated, it takes about a minimum of 400 days to feel the benefit, thanks to the deminishing return of moving up levels.

(Curiously, I reckoned the benefit of training a rank 3 learning skill to V, as opposed to not training it at all, to be repaid in just 100 days. So if you'd gone straight off the bat as new characters up to level V on both tiers, each attribute, you'd now just be starting to receive the benefit of doing little else in your first 3-4 months of playing, at around 550 days, neglecting the beneficial impact on secondary attributes).

Remember - time is the one thing that can't be bought, stolen or taken back in Eve. But it can be lost, if your clone isn't up to scratch, of course!

Implants, if you're not likely to get podded, are great. Stating the obvious, but upgrading from +3 to +5 instantaneously gives you double the benefits of training from level IV to V for weeks. Just the cost is ISK rather than time. And, of course, it feeds back in, lowering the time said training would take if you performed that too.

Oh, and dinner’s going to be traditional Sunday roast. Lamb hopefully.

Everyone had good advice, thank you! Rui just happened to wrap it up in the easiest to digest and most applicable way for me. Thanks to all for leaving dinner comments! It kept my wife asking if any more answers hit this question for dinner suggestions lol. Keep posting your dinners if you want to share!!!

Aw, cheers man. Almost as good as the lambs' liver and onion gravy I enjoyed afterwards.

If you intend to keep playing then do the level 5s on the rank 1 skills and the level 4s on the ranks 3s right now. It takes a huge amount of time to get back the time for doing the rank 3s to level 5, I calculated that be 350-400 days training skills with that skill as primary for each attribute.

Same with +5s really if you aren't venturing into low or null sec.

The sooner you get the attributes up the more sp benefits from it.

Dinner was chicken curry with rice.

When you say t2 learning skills, are you referring to the SOCT Advanced skills? I'd honestly do some research work with EVE Mon in the skill planner and skill optimizer and see what makes a better difference. Currently I have +4's with all my learning skills at 4 and 5 besides Learning V obviously and the only difference between +3's and 4's are mere hours. If you have the LP's and the isk to go for +5's then I'd say what are you waiting for? :D

I am about to have stuffed bell peppers btw..

Evemon is good for that but you must take care to put enough skills in the plan as it will only recommend learning skills that will save you time over the life of the plan. Make the plan as long as you think you might be playing for.

I had two +5 implants, learning skills tier 1 @ V and tier 2 at @ IV (except CHR skills) by the beginning of my 3rd month playing eve. I spent my first 3 weeks with minimal learning skills training to fly a bc for pve. After some advice from veteran players, the next month and a half was just cybernetics V and learning skills.

btw, why are you skilling to fly a carrier if you don't plan to leave hisec? If you do plan to live in 0.0 or low sec though, I'd recommend you stick with two +3 implants at a time. Do train the learning skills right away though, it makes a big difference in training. Someone posted an optimal skill training schedule here; please use that as a guide.

Dinner was a slice of buffalo chicken pizza and some soda. I know I need to eat healthier XD

seriously yearh. you need to eat more healthy…. ohhh wait… screw eat what you want oyu only live once XD…

if he is heading for low sec i would recomend 2 clones one with full +3 or +4 set and one clone with no implants. the one with implant you should jump to when you warna have some fun and the one with good implants use him when you wan’t to train skills and have no desire to fight that day.

dammit wrote wrong the one without implant when having fun and the one with implant is when you know you don’t have anything to do and just want to gain sp.

Two +3’s cost 20mil. Certainly worth keeping them in your head in lowsec/0.0. It’s a lot easier to save your pod in lowsec since there are no bubbles. btw, it was diet soda. Other than black coffee for breakfast, that’s all I ate today.

i would recomend to get cybernetics lvl 4 and all rank 1 learning skills to 5 and the other to 4 plus get a set +4 implants as fast as possible... all my char had it in the first month of their play time and have been useful for me since then.

dinner was salmon with pasta and garlic

to take personal experience getting cybernetics to lvl 4 have drecreased my orca pilots training time with 16 days minus the 3 days it took to learn cybernetics lvl 4

and when you are around 6 month old i would recomend getting cybernetics lvl 5 and get +5 implants

hope this helps

edit: i would recomend downloading EVEHQ it can optimize your skills to remap and put in implants before you have to see how much time you save.
