short 101 on mission salvaging:

  1. in nearly all encounter missions the salvage you get from the wrecks is worth more then the reward you would get from the agent independent of the level of the mission. though the value of the salvage rises with the mission level since you get bigger rats to kill.
  2. if you want to salvage a mission, make a bookmark in every pocket and then complete the mission. after you hand in the mission you can go salvaging, which is easier now since you can use an MWD.
  3. also when running mission you should think about your target. if you are just doing them to get isk then go for the salvage. if you do them to get standings, e.g. you want to be able to get jump clones with that corp, then you should consider that salvaging will take some time and maybe it's not worth it for you.
  4. a very important notice is, that other people can salvage your wrecks and you can salvage other peoples wrecks without getting flagged. so it might be that people scan down your mission sites and salvage them but you can do the same. this is called ninja salvaging. some people don't like it others don't care. if you ask nicely before it's maybe for the best.

also i make good money when i go with corp mates and just salvage missions for them and we share. bigger missions can get you around 20mil isk just in salvage :)

Salvaging is still profitable but less so since they introduced the 3 sizes of rigs. You used to need around a 100 trit bars to make a cargo expander for any size ship making them highly in demand and therefore with artificially inflated prices. The same was true of melted capacitor consoles for cap rigs.

Basically I figure that if you are looting wrecks then with a good fit and reasonable skills you might as well salvage as well. Destroyers and battlecruisers with 8 high slots make the best salvage vessels with, in my opinion, the Hurricane beating all hands down with its decent starting cargo and reasonable number of mid slots for cap recharge and maybe a tank if you are salvaging while the mission continues.

The real paydirt comes when you salvage T2 ships and get some T2 salvage but no missions provide them (even supposedly T2 rat ships like assault frigates) and unless you happen to be there after a decent 0.0 battle then they are hard to find. Only faction rat spawns, eg. True Sansha, give these outside of player ships. You also need salvaging at level 4 to salvage T2 ships.

Salvaging is an excellent source of income despite the changes. If you are fairly new, train for destroyers and buy one. Equip it with 4 salvagers and 4 tractor beams, when you salvage, click on the wreck you want to salvage and use all four salvagers on it. Keep your tractor beams bringing in wrecks.

Check the system your in and if someone is shooting rats in the belts, ask them if you can salvage their wrecks. DO NOT empty any cans you create while doing this as it can get you set as a target. Salvaging a wreck alone does not cause this.

Salvaging large wrecks is one of the best source of income for new players.

You can go at it from one of two ways:

  1. Beg people for crumbs, and hope they're too busy to care about salvaging the ships they shoot. Sometimes, they'll ask you for half of what you make, and you'll give it to them, because it's what good boys do.

  2. Take control of your destiny, learn some basic scanning skills, find mission runners, warp in their mission, and skillfully salvage wrecks while dodging NPC fire and listening to mission runners rage in local chat.

There's a lot more to be said about it. Just follow the white rabbit and see what it leads you.

salvaging is a good way to start making isk as soon u finish tuto and epic arcs. in ur cruiser or BC fit the tractor and salvaging and do it while u kill. with time ull do misions so fast u dont have time for it any more. but until that time comes doit while killing and ull get alot of isk and items.

u can be a ninja but that takes more skills and u miss bountys and LP u could be gaining just doing the misions.
