Will we ever get a better role/stats for Destroyers?

Now that we are getting Noctics?

Marnora is referring to the new salvage vessel “Noctic”. I believe the question is from the angle that without a need for salvage fit destroyers is there any use for them any more. Harsh but fair comment? Maybe…

Destroyers are very good at what they do, they are just to Fragile for their sig size.

I've taken a Destroyer (Thrasher) into battle before and gotten 3 solo Tackler kills (and one of them was a Inty) before going down.

They are very good sniping anti tackle devices.

Unfortunately due to the fact the armour isn't much better than a Frigate and the Sig is almost as big as a cruiser, almost the second something Cruiser size or above tackles you you're toast, if you can make yourself small and insignificant then you tend to be one of the last people shot at.

They have three ways to go if they are to improve the destroyer, either improve there defences or improve their offenses. They can be as fragile as they are if you can constantly take out 3-5 tacklers before dying.

Lastly they could make a form of EWAR unique to destroyers, like a tackle shield in effect, a module that would jam the points coming from a craft, that would make them plenty useful as there intended purpose is anti tackle I feel this would be in line with this outline. As most dessy's have limited mids anyway it wouldn't provide much difficulty in balancing!

I doubt they would do it, but I do wish they would, hell I'd take an improved T2 Destroyer for the module or others improvements, if it's got to be a glass cannon so be it, but make it worth the while, Destroyers are rarely seen in PVP sadly.

I don’t think they are too fragile. They are fragile, but if you fly them like they should be flown that is not really a problem. Their primary role is for killing light tackle etc.

Point I was trying to make is Fragility vs Sig Radius. Destroyers tend to have the worst of both worlds, the armour and EHP of a heavy frigate, but has a signature radius only fractionally smaller than a cruiser.

Certainly. But i disagree that they are “too” fragile. I believe they are balanced.

Can’t fault you for your POV… It’s pretty much the reason they don’t get flown though. They have the survivability of a FNG.

The standard salvager builds for the destroyer, example, and battle cruiser, example, were secondary to their real role. they are player creations to fill a need for a salvager with 8 high slots. now that the noctics is rolling out nothing has changed in regards to the true roles of the destroyer nor battle cruiser. im sure there will be a reduction in the number of salvage fit dessys and battle cruisers. however that decrees will be relative to the overall cost of the noctics versus the older makeshift salvage boats.

as for the need for a redesign of the role and abilities of destroyers...thats debatable. folks have talked on the forums about it forever. but i doubt we'll see it any time soon, if it ever happens.

t2 destroyers in some kind of a covops roll.

Still weak tank, but quick and 7 guns/missiles even with the w/ the 25% rof penelty.

They would get t2 resists and still minimal for lows and mid slots.

Thats my vote.

Or just make the destroyer a t3 type ship, with only 3 mod choices per subsystem!

I like the idea of T3 destroyers…maybe a T3 frigate configurable to fill the current destroyer role only better.

I’ve heard rumblings about T3 Frigates and Battleships, but nothing concrete yet.
