Yay! BPO....now what??

A friend of mine got a ship BPO running a complex last night. He's really new to EvE, and while I'm not, I've never gone into this stuff. He does not want to sell the BPO. What does he need (material and skills) to: Make BPC's Make the ship (okay, not the materials for this part, those are listed on the BP, just skills). Can he make ships off the BPO? Does that destroy it?

Any other tidbits of info I need?

picking an answer from these two was hard, both were helpful.

I don't think he has a BPO. I've only ever heard of BPCs being dropped in complexes. I may be wrong, however.

The skills for everything you must have are also listed on the BP. To speed things up you need the Industry skill maxed, and to help reduce amounts of materials required you need Production Efficiency maxed.

To get less taxes and fees for buying the materials, work on the Accounting and Broker Relations skills, and grind missions for a single NPC corporation to gain standings (which significantly reduces taxes).

If it really is a BPO, then you need some science skills for researching the ME, PE and Copying stats: Science, Research, and Metallurgy.

Finally, you may want Mass Production, Advanced Mass Production, Laboratory Operation and Advanced Laboratory Operation to increase the number of BPs you can build/research at once. Then Scientific N etworking and Supply Chain Management to increase the range at which you can manage research/build jobs.

The BPO cannot be destroyed by making ships. If you try to invent it(depending on what BPO it is) it will probably be destroyed. It can be researched and copied and produced without harm to the BPO. And copies made will have the same research levels as the BPO. Any inventing(again depends on the BPO) should be done on the copies. Copies themselves can be sold or used to produce but not copied again. All of the skills required should also be listed on the BPO under the various tabs pertaining to what you want to do with it.

You can’t invent from BPO, you need BPCs.

Huh, I was not aware of that. I’ve never tried it since I didn’t want to lose one.
